Maidenhead Canoe Club has been launched and is open to new members. The club operates on York Stream using two person open canoes, single kayaks and sit-on-top kayaks.
The club, which is run by Friends of Maidenhead Waterways, meets on Monday evenings in the spring and summer, launching at Chapel Arches in Maidenhead town centre. There are some Saturday morning paddles, depending on the availability of coaches to lead.
Regular club paddles will be along York Stream and down Bray Cut towards the Thames. Longer club trips on Saturday mornings will go to the Thames at Bray and back, as well as along different stretches of the Thames.
These trips will be led by qualified club coaches trained in safety and rescue, as well as first aid.
Membership of Maidenhead Canoe Club costs £40 per year. New joiners must complete Paddle UK's Discover course led by a club coach, costing £60. This course covers canoe and kayak skills, equipment, river conditions and safety.
Once members have completed the Discover course they can join all club sessions and activities at no extra expense. All canoes, kayaks, paddles and buoyancy aids are provided by the club.
Maidenhead Canoe Club is proud to be affiliated to Paddle UK, the governing body of British Canoeing.
For those considering joining, the club offers taster sessions for just £10 with no further commitment.
Details of taster sessions and Discover courses will be announced and can be booked on our MeetUp site:
